On the 3rd, the author learned from the Huizhou Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau that the National Key Laboratory for Food Testing for Hong Kong established by the Bureau has been able to test more than 900 items to ensure the "zero accident" of food safety for Hong Kong.

As a major agricultural city in the Pearl River Delta region close to Hong Kong, Huizhou is an important production base for food and agricultural products from the Mainland to Hong Kong, mainly supplying fresh vegetables, live pigs, fresh frozen pork, fresh milk, eggs and egg products. At present, Huizhou has a total of 135 enterprises related to the supply of goods to Hong Kong. In 2016, the total amount of food and agricultural products supplied to Hong Kong from Huizhou reached 16,000 batches, 126,000 tons and 190 million US dollars. Among them, two categories ranked first in the province, namely cooked poultry and fresh frozen pork, accounting for about 60% and 50% of the province's supply to Hong Kong respectively. In addition, live pigs, fresh frozen poultry meat, egg products, etc., account for a larger share.

The person in charge of Huizhou entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau introduced that in order to ensure the safety of food supplied to Hong Kong, the bureau has established a national key laboratory for food testing supplied to Hong Kong. It is the first laboratory in Huizhou to obtain the qualification of the national food inspection agency, a total of 23 inspectors, equipped with more than 600 sets of sophisticated instruments and equipment, with a total value of more than 35 million yuan. The testing scope of the laboratory includes food, cosmetics, livestock products, aquatic products, agricultural and sideline products, food additives, water quality, soil, Chinese medicinal materials, etc., and can detect microorganisms, residues of agricultural and veterinary drugs, food additives, heavy metals, genetically modified ingredients, prohibited drugs and other items. The annual testing batches reach more than 8,300 batches. Including the National Key Laboratory of Food testing for Hong Kong, the bureau has a total of 12 professional testing laboratories. The person in charge said that it will continue to increase investment in funds, personnel and equipment, strengthen cooperation with various functional departments and related enterprises, and fully ensure the safety of food supplied to Hong Kong.

Editor's comments: Hong Kong's centralized food safety supervision model and higher safety standards have forced the food supply to Hong Kong to improve the safety factor. Therefore, it can be said that Hong Kong has higher requirements for the safety and quality of food supplied to Hong Kong. Food supplies to Hong Kong are in urgent need of high-precision instruments and equipment for strict testing. It is understood that the food supply to Hong Kong is mainly supplied by the mainland, and the safety rate of food supply to Hong Kong has reached 99.999%, which has achieved success in Hong Kong. This model could also be applied to the mainland, where supervision of food supplies to Hong Kong could be implemented directly.
